How Much Does a Website Cost in Birmingham, AL?
A small business website in Birmingham costs about $625 to $3,300 for a one-time build from a local designer, $150 to $1,250 a month on a monthly plan that includes hosting and upkeep, or $19 to $99 a month if you build it yourself on Squarespace. Full custom builds with copywriting run higher. Ours is $7,500.

How much does a full website cost?
It depends on which of three ways you pay. You can build it yourself on a platform like Squarespace or Wix, pay a designer once to build it, or pay a monthly plan where someone builds it and keeps it running. Each one has a different total over a year, and a different answer to who owns the site.
Here's what Birmingham-area companies publish on their own websites. We read every one of these pages in October 2026. Prices change, so check with each company before you decide.
| Company | How you pay | Published price | What the price covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Squarespace | Monthly, do it yourself | $19–$99/mo billed yearly ($25–$139 billed monthly) | The builder and hosting. You do the design and writing. |
| Wix | Monthly, do it yourself | About $17–$159/mo | Same idea as Squarespace. |
| Hire The Creatives | One time | $625 / $1,895 / $4,995+ | Up to 5 pages / up to 15 pages / premium custom builds |
| Heights Digital Media | One time, then monthly | $750, then $399/mo | The build, then updates, monthly content, SEO and Google Business Profile management. Month to month, and you keep the site if you cancel. |
| Vestavia Web Design | One time | $800 / $1,800 / $3,300 | 5 pages / up to 10 pages / 15+ pages, with 1, 3 or 6 months of support |
| Ridgeway Web | Monthly, or one time | $150–$275/mo (6-month minimum), or from $2,750 | Hosting and unlimited edits on the monthly plans. The lump sum gets you full ownership. |
| SEOteric | Monthly | From $249/mo, plus $250–$500/mo for SEO | A 5–10 page site, 12-month minimum |
| Lamb Creative (us) | Monthly, or one time | $500 / $1,000 / $1,250/mo, or $7,500 once | The site is included (15, 20 or 30 pages), plus 4, 8 or 12 new pages every month. Yours after 12 months. |

What the first year actually costs
One-time and monthly prices are hard to compare until you add up a full year. Using the published numbers above:
- Squarespace Core, built yourself: about $348 for the year at $29 a month billed yearly, plus your own time.
- Vestavia's $1,800 build: $1,800, plus hosting once the three months of support end. At $15 to $50 a month for basic hosting, that's roughly $2,000 to $2,400.
- Ridgeway's $150 plan: $1,800 for the year.
- Heights' $750 build plus $399 a month: $5,538 for the year.
- Our Foundation plan: $6,000 for the year, which covers a 15-page site plus 48 new pages added over those 12 months.
- Our Growth plan: $12,000 for the year, with a 20-page site, 96 new pages and three months of Google Ads management.
The cheapest year and the best value aren't always the same thing. The difference is how much work you want done for you after launch.
The statewide guides that show up when you search this question give wider ranges. Ben Vaughn Marketing in Prattville tells small businesses to budget $2,000 to $10,000. PiperMâché, a Madison designer, puts custom builds at $3,000 to $8,000 and up. Forbes Advisor's 2026 guide puts professional design at $1,500 and up. None of those are wrong. They're just describing different kinds of sites.
What is a fair price to pay for a website?
A fair price is one where you know exactly what's in it. For a basic five to ten page site where you supply the words and photos, $750 to $2,000 from a local designer is fair. Once someone else writes every page, designs it from scratch and sets up the SEO, $3,000 to $7,500 is normal.
The price moves with five things:
- Pages. Five pages and fifteen pages are different jobs. Vestavia's own tiers jump from $800 to $3,300 mostly on page count.
- Who writes the words. Copywriting is the part most cheap quotes leave to you. PiperMâché prices it separately at $500 to $2,000 or more.
- Photos. Stock photos are free. Real photos of your crew and your work cost a shoot.
- SEO setup. Titles, page structure, service-area pages and site speed take real time. Some quotes include it, and some say "SEO-friendly" and stop there.
- Ownership. Some plans hand you the site. Some keep it.
When we built the site for Morgan Muscle Cars, a restomod shop in Pelham, we wrote the copy, shot the photos and video, and handled the SEO. As of July 2026 they rank #2 in the Birmingham metro for classic car restoration. That kind of job sits at the top of the ranges above, and it should.
Is $1500 a good price for a website?
Yes, for a small, simple site, as long as you know what's left out. At $750 to $1,800, Birmingham designers publish five to ten page builds. What usually isn't in that number is the writing, the photography, hosting after the first month or two, and any SEO work after launch.
Before you pay $1,500 for anything, ask four questions:
- Who writes the words on each page, you or them?
- Who pays for hosting after launch, and how much is it?
- Is the domain registered in your name?
- What happens when the support period ends and you need a change?
If the answers are "you," "you," "yes" and "it's billed hourly," $1,500 can still be a good deal. You just need to know you're buying a starting point, not a finished system.
Is there a monthly fee to have a website?
Yes. Every website has at least two ongoing costs: a domain name, usually about $10 to $20 a year, and hosting. Forbes Advisor puts hosting and apps at $15 to $150 a month in its 2026 guide. If you build on Squarespace or Wix, hosting is part of the plan price.
Even a site you paid for once still needs somewhere to live. Most designers either host it for you for a monthly fee or hand you the keys and let you pay a host directly. Maintenance plans in Birmingham run from about $150 a month at Ridgeway to $399 a month at Heights, depending on what's included. Our Care Plan for sites people own outright is $300 a month for hosting, backups, updates and up to two hours of edits.
How much should I pay per month for a website?
Pay for what the monthly fee actually does. Hosting alone should cost you $15 to $50 a month. Hosting plus edits runs about $150 to $300. Once the plan includes new content and SEO every month, expect $400 to $1,250 or more, and ask exactly how much content you get.
That last part matters most. "New content every month" can mean one blog post or twelve pages. Our plans spell it out: 4 new articles or money pages a month on Foundation ($500), 8 on Growth ($1,000) and 12 on Scale ($1,250), plus a custom website of 15, 20 or 30 pages at launch.
Then ask the question that changes everything: who owns the site if you stop paying? Plans in Birmingham handle it three different ways.
- You keep it if you cancel. Heights Digital Media says this outright.
- You buy it. Ridgeway Web offers a lump-sum option for full ownership.
- It becomes yours after a set term. That's how ours works: after 12 months on any plan the site and code transfer to you at no cost, and your domain is always registered in your name.

FAQ
How much should I pay someone to host my website?
Most small business sites need $15 to $50 a month for hosting on its own. Forbes Advisor's range for hosting and apps runs to $150 a month for bigger needs. If someone quotes you more than that for hosting alone, ask what else is bundled in, like updates, backups or edits.
Can I pay for SEO without getting a new website?
Plenty of agencies sell SEO on any site. We don't. Every one of our plans includes a new custom website, so switching doesn't cost you extra for the build, and we do SEO on sites we build and host because that's how we control the speed, the structure and the pages we add every month. If you only want Google Ads, we can run those on the site you have now.
Why are Lamb Creative's prices higher than some of these?
Because the monthly plans include a lot more ongoing work than a basic build: a custom site, a set number of new pages every month, hosting, unlimited small edits, and on Growth and Scale, three months of Google Ads management. If you only need a simple five-page site and plan to run it yourself, one of the lower-priced options above may be the better fit, and we'll tell you that on a call.
